Why Voting Doesn’t Work

A few thoughts while I am on the road (read – fudging with timestamps so that I make my daily post commitment).

With all of the problems reported with voting – like this one, I am really worried about this upcoming election. I have already ranted about not liking the options, but what happens if the process itself fails in a catastrophic fassion? What do we do when e-voting machines crash and whole county’s aren’t counted, or when the popular vote doesn’t agree with the electorial vote? We have to face the facts that we do not live in a democracy – we live in a republic. We don’t vote for the president nor do we vote for options, we vote for people who make these decisions for us. Is this the best way to do it? Well – maybe it is, if you don’t think the “average American” has the inteligence to vote responsibly (I’m not going to touch this one at the moment).

Anyway, people should be aware that there are other ways to do things – there are (possibly) better options. One interesting article I read on this can be found here.
