America vs Athens

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

A snipet from John Stewart’s America: The Book:
Compared with American democracy, the Athenian version seems simplistic, naive, and gay. Transcripts of early Athenian policy debates reveal a populace moved more by eloquence and rationality than demagogues and fear-mongering. Thankfully, this type of humane governance wasn’t allowed to take root.
Oh, and Happy Hallow E’en everyone!

Sonnet 49

Saturday, October 30th, 2004

Against that time, if ever that time come,
When I shall see thee frown on my defects,
When as thy love hath cast his utmost sum,
Call’d to that audit by advised respects;
Against that time when thou shalt strangely pass
And scarcely greet me with that sun thine eye,
When love, converted from the thing it was,
Shall reasons find of [...]

A little translation for you - brought to you in part by Sun Microsystems
Sun: That isn’t possible.
Translation: Hopefully you won’t find this.
Sun: errm.. I meant that isn’t supported by Sun, this is the best way to do it.

Brint - Doing this impossible and unsupported since [...]

Conundrum

Thursday, October 28th, 2004

Dreams of Flight

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004

I have dreams that I can fly. Not with the assistance of technology or magic, I just can.
There is no limit. I can soar as high as I’d like and see for distances unmeasured. And yet, I have fear. I am careful not to fly too high, or decend too quickly. Each time I dream, [...]

Wandering Mind

Tuesday, October 26th, 2004

My mind doesn’t seem to be capable of locking into any one decision or idea lately. Too much to think about, or not enough to hold my interest? All I know is that it is causing a bit of an uneasiness, not knowing exactly what to think about.

Creative Commons Music

Free is good. It’s pretty obvious that I am an open source advocate, but that can reach beyond just open source software. I love the idea of a free society where creativity is not held back with such tight copyright and intellectual property laws. Everyone has the right to be credited for thier work, and [...]

John Stewart on Crossfire

Sunday, October 24th, 2004

By now, many of you have already heard about or seen this, but I want to make sure in case anyone else is left in the dark.
John Stewart (of The Daily Show) appeared on Crossfire recently. It has to be one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Instead of promoting his new [...]
